Come Dance With Us!
As part of the International Global World Dance celebrations, URBAN-15 presents a free, performance on Saturday, June 15, 2019. On that day, communities around the world will be “dancing for safe water, for everyone, everywhere”. Dancers and dance companies in 171 cities will participate in this canticle of creation, depicting how all living things are dependent on water. The event aims to draw attention to the world’s dwindling supply of fresh water.
Locally, URBAN-15 is partnering with San Antonio River Authority (SARA) along with local water resource advocates to present this 45-minute performance. Catherine Cisneros, Artistic Director of URBAN-15, has created a choreography that includes URBAN-15 dancers, community participants, audience members, along with Brittany Lopez with grit danceworks and Sister Martha Ann Kirk of the University of the Incarnate Word. With costume pieces featuring various natural and supernatural elements (grasses, flowers, and rivers), this ensemble performance piece is a quiet study of repetitive cycles, both internal and universal, for dancers and sound.
