Mega Corazon 2020: Call for Entries

Monday, April 6 marks the date of the 7th annual Mega Corazon, a hybrid live/online spoken word marathon held during National Poetry Month. Mega Corazon presents the best of San Antonio’s poetic tradition, combining street, classical, and slam performance styles in a production that is improvisational and choreographed for a highly visual impact. This year’s lineup will be finalized on March 1 and poetry audiences worldwide can watch this livestreamed event for free.

Poets participating in previous years have included Poets Laureate Carmen Tafolla, Laurie Ann Guerrero, Jenny Browne, and Octavio Quintanilla; internationally recognized writers Naomi Shihab Nye and John Phillip Santos; slam champions Anthony “The Poet” Flores and Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, and many other talented poets.

In addition to these selected artists, URBAN-15 has slots open to poets interested in participating in the 2020 Mega Corazon. Through an open call process, we are currently accepting applications from poets around Bexar County and surrounding regions. There is no entry fee to submit application materials, and deadline is February 15, 2020

To be considered for inclusion in the 2020 Mega Corazon, please email the following materials to events@urban15.org:

  • A performance video (or online link to performance video)
  • List of publications
  • Artist bio
  • Letter of recommendation from a dead poet

Final selections will be announced March 1, 2020. For those poets selected, this year’s Mega Corazon will take place live in our studio (2500 S. Presa 78210) on Monday, April 6, 2020.  A live internet broadcast of all performances will also be accessible free of charge and without a password on URBAN-15 website’s at https://urban15.org/live-stream/
