Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and the NRA

On Saturday, July 23rd, URBAN-15 will host a screening of Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and the NRA, a recently released documentary by director Robert Greenwald. Making a Killing tells the stories of how guns, and the billions made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims’ families. The film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA are resisting responsible legislation for the sake of profit – and thereby putting people in danger. A panel discussion will follow the screening, featuring concerned community leaders who will address a number of issues raised in the film, including gun violence as a public health issue, gun violence and mental illness, and legislative reforms. David Martin Davies, host of TPR’s The Source, will moderate this discussion.
This screening is part of a campaign by Brave New Films to use film to organize community discussions of the problem of gun violence and its solutions. The purpose of the event is not to advocate for particular legislative actions, but rather to use the film to open up community conversation, as part of our efforts to build a space for independent cinema on the Southside. Notably, this is the only screening of the film scheduled in Texas.
Tickets are $10 general admission and can be purchased at the door, or in advance online at https://urban-15.ticketleap.com/making-a-killing-guns-greed-and-the-nra/
