URBAN-15’s Birthday Block Party!

In celebration of our 41st birthday, URBAN-15 will be hosting “Neighborhood Handshake,” an annual block party for the South Presa/Southtown neighborhoods.

This July marks the 41st anniversary of URBAN-15’s first public performance. In 1974, 15 artists—electronic music composers, dancers, sculptures, and conceptual artists—came together as an experimental performance ensemble, using the city as our stage and canvas. More than forty years later, we never guessed we would still be creating, teaching, and performing as street dancers, drummers, and media artists. Our goal continues to be the creation of art that stimulates the imagination of our community.

The event will begin at 2:00pm inside our studio at 2500 S. Presa and move outdoors from 6 to 9:00 p.m. Event is free of charge, open to all ages, and will feature live music, performances from our Carnaval de San Anto ensemble, poetry readings and other performances, a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, and food and drinks for sale.

Whether you are a long-time supporter of URBAN-15 or want to drop by for the first time and get to know us–as well as residents and local businesses from the South Presa neighborhood–come by on July 18th!

Event is supported in part by Freetail Brewing, Eagle’s Corner Ice Cream Shop, Liberty Bar, Sexology, Pig Liquors, Dominique’s Hot Dogs, J. Anthony’s Seafood, and San Antonio’s Gourmet Olive Oils.
