The Power of Film

Although URBAN-15 is known more for our drum and dance performance, it began originally as a group of 15 artists creating art with the city.  The artists’ abilities spanned a number of disciplines, including music composition, sculpture, filmmaking, dance, visual arts, installation, etc.  Thus, in addition to our performance group and our cultivation programs, URBAN-15 aims to create events that reach out to the broader arts community in San Antonio.  We’ve put on a number of different arts events throughout the years, but the medium that we gravitiate towards the most is film.  Some events the we put together annually are:

The Josiah Media FestivalA nationwide film festival coordinated by URBAN-15 that is open to filmmakers 21 years of age and younger. Prizes are awarded in narrative, experimental, animation, and documentary categories.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival: A worldwide film festival originating from New York where the finalists’ short films are sent to venues all over the planet and voted upon by the audiences themselves.  The URBAN-15 Studio is one of the only venues in Texas screening these films. (Take a look at one of our happy audiences above!)

MediaNow film workshop: This workshop connects students with successful local professionals in various fields of the film industry who can give essential and useful information on the filmmaking process.

URBAN-15 continues its commitment to enriching the film and arts community with its purchase of a Tricaster, a camera capable of streaming broadcast quality video live over the internet.  With this powerful tool, we can potentially broadcast our film events all over the world.
